#JusticiaParaAyotzinapa: 38 days without results and legality

At the last minute José Luis Abarca and his wife, María de los Ángeles Pinedo, have been detained supposedly in the early hours of this morning, at the time of writing my column for this publication, but the remarkable aspect and absurdity of the issue is that, first, a few days ago it had already been said that they had already been captured, and subsequently, in the early hours of Tuesday they were arrested in Iztapalapa, in the Federal District, precisely where they were more actively being sought, fact that compulsorily also brought me to mind the arrest of Los Zodiaco gang and Florence Cassez. We will see what the authorities have prepared for us, in the course of the day and week; does it all this mean that they are now setting the stage to tell the truth to the parents of the students and the people of Mexico?

And it is exactly like this that I was starting my column for today:

It is not really worth it and, much less, it is no ethical at all for the authorities lacking sensitivity and common sense to continue playing with the feelings both of the relatives of the students and the Mexican society.

And it is with good reason. After 38 days of the “forced disappearance,” a term used by the authorities and the media, of the 43 students, and as the parents themselves expressed yesterday after a meeting with the Comisionado Nacional de Seguridad (National Security Commissioner), and now with “lower-ranking” officials, there hasn’t been any progress, apart from the punishment meted out in the Angel Aguirre case.

In this particular case, I also asked for his dismissal at the time, his resignation, and now seeing all this scenario where absolutely nothing is being settled, as I started to explain in previous columns, in my very humble opinion as a lawyer and also as a human being with some common sense, Aguirre turned out to be the “scapegoat” of this crime, who had to be discredited at any given time. However, if we are to be honest, we should make it clear, without taking anything away from his administrative and criminal responsibility for obstruction of justice and inaction, and wonder as to whether the authorities with no less responsibilities than this character have the same degree of responsibility than him in what is a crime against humanity. Excuse me dear reader for being so repetitive, but I want to make clear my position in this regard.

In spite of all this, the interim Governor of Guerrero, Roberto Ortega, completely cheerful, is in another realm of reality, not in the state, or in the misfortune, as it was clearly evident in the interview by Adela Micha Zaga, who in her desire for personal recognition questioned him. The official himself was seen as if he were being interviewed as a soap opera character, even cheerful, despite the tragedy, and worse still, creating false hopes for the relatives of the students and society. He went as far as creating stories of suspense and international terrorism as those seen in American films, even including the film La Dictadura Perfecta (The Perfect Dictatorship) by Luis Estrada, by saying without any objectivity or responsibility that the students were in the hands of “anti-system groups” and that he was waiting for them to call him and ask him for rescue money, etc., and even more that “he would pay even with his life” for the students to be handed over to us.

The truth is that I would like to see him on that scenario, my dear reader. However, demagogues and fiction continue to do their work in the face of this ordeal. I am still outraged at the indifference and the position of this new governor, who, according to him, “is not political” but “academic” and to top it off was even “a former guerrilla” in his good old days. At the end of this column I will leave the link of the complete interview, so that you arrive at your own conclusions.

I feel very sad that we continue watching speeches, demagogues, phonies seeking the limelight, but what is worse is playing with the feelings of the parents of the students. The current governor turned out to be worse than Aguirre Rivero, whose departure instead of helping matters let everything continue the same or worsen, since acts of violence by anarchist groups continue, the situation continues to heat up, the authorities are still playing “hot potato,” and the governor does not want to be subjected to any investigation by the PGR. The disappearance of powers proposed by the Acción Nacional party, despite the climate of brutality that continues growing, was defended at all costs by the senators, since for them all is well, there is governance in spite of everything I just mentioned, dear reader.

Where are we going to end ip in light of the apathy, hostility, and above all, the negligence and lack of seriousness of our authorities in the three branches and the three levels of government? What kind of ground are they preparing for us to know the truth?

The UN, which has already pronounced itself in this regard, must legally take the reins of this matter since it turns out to be of its competence. The parents of the students should at this time request, or rather demand, its formal intervention without having to go to UN headquarters, i.e., doing it directly in any of the United Nations organizations represented in Mexico.
