“Mexico has changed and we have to change too.  Through ADN 40 we want to communicate with that Mexico that is hungry for information … and through A+ we are going to become part of the community to take one more step towards the total reinvention of TV Azteca ” –Benjamín Salinas Sada, CEO of TV Azteca.

To whom it May concern,

The Canadian Association for the Defence of Human Rights En Vero (formerly the Canadian Association for Rights and Truth) wishes to express its deep concern and indignation at the participation of TV Azteca and ADN40 in its disinformation campaign towards members of the Vallarta family and those accused by the President of Alto al Secuestro, Isabel Miranda de Wallace or María Isabel Miranda Torres.

We wish to make you aware that the information provided on the news bulletins to support Ms. Miranda Torres’s allegations against Mexican civilians is not only false but extremely slanderous against the citizens arbitrarily designated by this woman, and that the documents that the President of Alto al Secuestro is providing to them were illegally obtained through a leak of private documents owned by the Comisión Ejecutiva de Atención a Víctimas. An internal investigation to determine who is responsible for such leaks is taking place.

The Association En Vero will continue to defend the interests of those accused by Ms. Miranda Torres, in particular those who have been identified as “kidnappers,” “criminals,” “delinquents,” serious charges that cause irreparable moral damage to these persons and their families.
We recommend the executives of TV Azteca and ADN40 that according to their mission of informing the Mexican public opinion:

1. Not to be tempted by “popular justice” and in promoting Ms. Miranda Torres’s speeches, in themselves contrary to law, and against whom a class action for slander is pending, as well as other criminal accusations.

2. To invite the persons pointed out by Ms. Miranda Torres to express themselves through your media, so as to give them at least equal amount of time as their detractor and accuser, in order to fulfill your mission of informing the public, and not only to assume that Ms. Miranda Torres’s discourse is the only one that is legitimate.

Finally, while we express our complete willingness to collaborate with the media to contribute to the fulfilment of their journalistic mission, we are surprised by the fact that neither TV Azteca nor ADN40 have given space to the information that our organization has tried to provide about the Wallace case, nor have they even been present at the two press conferences we have held in Mexico City.

To conclude, we invite those to whom this letter is addressed to measure the severe implications of disseminating false information, explicitly aimed at publicly presenting citizens as criminals: implications not only for the people who are mentioned and exhibited as such In their newscasts, but also for the rule of law in Mexico. That is, in your effort to “inform” public opinion in a partial way, by promoting Ms. Miranda Torres’s discourse that is contrary to law, you are actively participating in breaking the rule of law.

 Yours truly,

 David Bertet
Chairman of the Board of Directors
