Continuity of Mohammad Ali Taheri’s Illegal Detention in Iran

The revolutionary court of Iran has extended Mohammad Ali Taheri’s detention for 4th time. Mohammad Ali Taheri, is an Iranian scholar and prisoner of conscience, he was supposed to be released on February 8th 2016 after 5 years of imprisonment, based on his legal verdict. Yet, for different reasons the judge has increased his detention period several times.

One of the reasons for this extension was that, he had not paid the fine based on the sentence for the charge of “gaining unlawful wealth”; however his lawyer has argued that this penalty didn’t have any legal base. For this reason, 7000 of Mr. Taheri’s students together with healed patients by his complementary system voluntarily collected 9 billion IRR and deposited it to the court on April 20, 2016 to show their support for Mr. Taheri and to stop the court from confiscating his properties.

This volunteer act of Mohammad Ali Taheri’s students proves that not only charge of gaining unlawful wealth is groundless, but there are thousands of people who have been benefited from his complementary system and the charge of “spreading corruption on earth” is another baseless allegation against him by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard to destroy the reputation of this Iranian theorist.

After they deposited the fine Mr. Taheri’s lawyer requested the application of Article 134 of punishment law for him. Nevertheless, Revolutionary Court refused to release Mohammad Ali Taheri and extended his detention for another 2 month without any legal basis. The judge, Mr. Salavati claimed that he was not aware of the amount of the paid fine at that time. It is worth mentioning that during his 5 years of imprisonment he has been in solitary confinement with several repetitive interrogations with physical and psychological tortures.
